Obesity: America’s Biggest Export

Anna joined author Michael Moss on CCTV to explore the issue of food addiction, as well as how the food industry court future generations of eaters.

The chemistry and marketing behind the U.S. food industry is doing serious damage to the health of millions of Americans, as well as increasing amounts of adults in other countries. Researchers at the Harvard School of Public Health found that every processed food lining the shelves of our favorite grocery store is rich in sugar, salt, and fat. New scientific discoveries show that such ingredients are biologically addictive.

The consequences of this issue are fatal to world health. More than a third of American adults are obese, and this problem is spreading to other countries as well. Obesity has seen an increase in the Middle East and northern Africa. In Mexico, 70 percent of adults are obese, and nearly a third of adults in China also fit into that category.
