Lens on Hunger is a nationwide effort to get communities talking about hunger – and what we each can do to fight it.

With free customized event-in-a-box toolkits, Lens on Hunger fosters engaging community events for all ages to spark dialogue and action on hunger, food access and eating well on a budget. The toolkits support a range of event styles and lengths – from 45 minutes to 2 hours – and are well-suited for a wide range of audiences and group sizes – from church groups to high school students to community organizations.

Free Multimedia Resources: Each event-in-a-box toolkit includes engaging activities and powerful short films as well as additional suggested resources.

Choose the event-in-a-box best suited to your community and get connected to everything you need to host your own event!
Each box contains materials for 20 participants, including:

  • Tiny but Mighty popcorn (options for stove top kernels OR microwaveable bags)
  • Links to a selection of short films on the topic of hunger customized for each kit
  • Suggested discussion questions for the short films
  • 1 copy of Leanne Brown’s Good and Cheap cookbook (additional copies available at non-profit discounts for $5.19/each)
  • 20 participant packs of take home recipe cards from the cookbook
  • Supplemental materials to customize your event or support an activity related to the theme, such as:
    • Seed ball workshop materials
    • Temporary Veggie tattoos

We started with 75 free event-in-a-box kits and all free boxes are now reserved as of July 6th. Hosts that sign up at this point will still be sent all the online event guides and additional event offerings this summer including Pop-Up Film Fests and #realfoodreads Book Club details.

Each box provides resources for up to 20 participants. If your event requires additional materials, please be in touch with us directly to discuss your needs. At this time Lens on Hunger event boxes are only available in the United States. Event toolkits will be shipped out no later than 5 business days from receiving your order form; be sure to check your email to confirm your selection and complete the order process. Please allow 2 weeks for delivery from the time of order confirmation.

Lens on Hunger was created in partnership between cookbook author Leanne Brown (Good and Cheap) and Real Food Media, a communications collaborative created by sustainable food advocate Anna Lappé. The Lens on Hunger series is supported in part by the Presbyterian Hunger Program.
