Green Enough: Eat Better, Live Cleaner, Be Happier (All Without Driving Your Family Crazy!)

In Green Enough, Mamavation blogger Leah Segedie offers an irreverent, entertaining take on making smart, healthy choices for you and your family and detoxifying your home, diet, and lifestyle.

After becoming a parent, Leah Segedie decided to investigate what, exactly, was in the food and household products she was buying. It turns out that many of them were filled with dangerous chemicals and toxins that have been shown to negatively impact human health. From that moment on, she embarked on a path of non-toxic living and became determined to help others. As a marketing expert and creator of the hit blog Mamavation, Segedie researched thousands of products and health claims to evaluate their safety.

Segedie shows readers how to make the best choices possible about what they bring into their homes – from furniture to packaged food – all without losing their minds! It’s not about being “perfect,” it’s about being armed with the right information so that you can put your family on the path to better health.

Praise for Green Enough

“I’ve been waiting a long time for somebody to write this book! Leah Segedie’s Green Enough is an irreverent bible for powerful living―packed of straight talk about science and practical tips for taking charge of our own health and the health of our personal environments. Best of all, the book feels like a cathartic confab with a good girlfriend, someone who knows what it’s like to be a busy mom grappling with an increasingly complex and crazy world, who has our backs and knows just what to say to keep us fired up to keep taking the next step forward into our own power. Bravo Leah, and thank you.”

— Stacy Malkan, co-founder of The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics and author of Not Just A Pretty Face

“Leah’s book is f@*&king awesome―as she might say. It’s a clear-eyed analysis of the toxic threats around us with just as clear tips and strategies for making better choices and taking action for ourselves and our communities.”

— Anna Lappé, national bestselling author of Diet for a Hot Planet

Lettuce Pesto

From Green Enough

Small garlic clove
1/2 cup loosely packed Italian parsley
4 cups loosely packed chopped romaine or other lettuce (tender-crisp varieties, such as butter crunch or Boston, work best)
1/2 cup Parmesan cheese

  1. Purée all ingredients in food processor.
  2. Scrape down the bowl.
  3. Add Parmesan cheese.
  4. Season to taste with salt and pepper.
  5. Process to mix.

Use immediately— as a sandwich spread, dip for crackers or vegetables, or sauce for simple chicken breast, salmon fillet, or rice or other grain—or keep in an airtight container in the fridge; it will retain its flavor and color for several days. It’s also freezable, but not as flavorful thereafter as basil or pistachio-mint pesto.
